The Joshua Coffin House was originally built in 1754 and moved in 1756 to its present location at the corners of Centre Street and Gay Street. We believe this may be one of the last houses on the island still owned by the original family. My name is Elizabeth S. Whalley and I am a 5th great-granddaughter of the original builder. I am also an 8th great-granddaughter of TWO of the original Nantucket Founding Fathers, Tristram Coffin and Thomas Gardner. 2006 marks the 250th anniversary and to celebrate, we are planning to launch a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to the preservation of the Joshua Coffin House, as well as the study of Nantucket History and Architecture. We will be continually adding to this website so check back often. For additional information, please contact us directly by clicking here.
